Poland’s EU membership did not diminish trade with Moldova
The fact that Poland is an EU member changed neither the positive tendencies in the trade with Moldova nor the structure of goods or Polish entrepreneurs and traders’ interest, the Polish Embassy in Moldova says.
Trade between Poland and Moldova could exceed 240 million USD this year, an increase of over 60 million USD year on year.
Moldova is Poland’s fifth commercial partner within the CIS, after Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Poland’s exports to Moldova have increased by an average 23% each year starting with 2003, up to 138.6 million USD in 2006 and to 123 million USD in the first nine months of this year. Poland exports to Moldova mainly machines, equipment and spare parts for industry and agriculture, building materials, domestic appliances, wood and wooden objects, metals and metal products, cosmetic and chemical products, medicines, meat and meat products, vegetables and fruit, food products, textiles, toys etc.
Moldova’s exports to Poland also rose from 25,500 USD in 2003 to 88 million USD in January-September 2007. Moldova exports mostly steel and steel objects, food products, wine, clothes etc.
Among the most promising areas of economic cooperation between Moldova and Poland are agriculture, animal breeding and processing of agricultural products as well as the organisation of the agricultural economy’s basis, production of energy from agricultural waste, construction projects and development of communal economy, industry, transport infrastructure, ecology and environment protection.
The Polish entrepreneurs have invested about 400,000 USD in the Moldovan economy. This is a relatively small sum for the moment, but it is projected that the investments will grow considerably in the future. Poland announces its readiness to implement investment projects proposed by Moldovan entrepreneurs on its territory.
