PNL asks German Chancellor to help reunite Moldova and Romania
The National Liberal Party (PNL) sent a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, demanding her involvement in the reunification of Moldova and Romania, Info-Prim Neo reports.
PNL leader Vitalia Pavlicenco spoke about the importance of creating the EU-Russia Committee, which would take care of the Transnistrian conflict as well. “We know you share the opinion that through political will a solution can be found for the Transnistrian issue. The National Liberal Party thinks that political will is also needed for the reunification of two Romanian countries. The reunification was a miracle for Germany, but it is delayed in Romania’s case”, read the letter.
The PNL leader reminded that on June 28, 1940, the eastern Romania (the nowadays Republic of Moldova) was occupied by the Soviet Union, thanks to an agreement with the Nazi Germany. The letter reads that on June 28, 2010, it was 70 years since the Soviet occupation of Basarabia, as a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact of non-aggression, also known as the Stalin-Hitler pact. Despite proclaiming its independence on August 27, 1991, Moldova remains under occupation as long as the Russian troops illegally stay on the left bank of the Nistru.
“Considering that recently, as German Chancellor, you committed to represent Moldova’s interests in the dialogue with the Russian Federation, we urge you to talk to its political leaders in the regard of repairing the crime committed 70 years ago, when Romania was divided, by annulling the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and by proceeding to eliminating its consequences, which means to accept the reunification of Moldova and Romania”, wrote Vitalia Pavlicenco.
Angela Merkel will visit Moldova on August 22, at the invitation of Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
