PM will request Parliament to modify structure of Cabinet

Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that he will go to Parliament on Thursday to ask for the approval of changes in the structure of the Cabinet. “On Thursday in Parliament, I will ask to approve the modification of the Cabinet’s structure and we will have, besides the deputy prime minister for foreign affairs, also the deputy prime minister for European integration, without portfolio, who will manage our European integration effort. And, respectively, this will head the Office for European Integration. From now on, we have to work on both dimensions and on the objectives set by President Sandu,” stated Dorin Recean, being quoted by IPN.

The statements were made during the ceremony to take the oath of office by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs. “Minster Deputy Prime Minister, dear Mihai, welcome to the Cabinet. I also want to thank you for the fact that you have helped the Cabinet a lot. You have helped the government a lot so far in our foreign policy effort, especially on the European integration dimension. From now on, we have to work a lot on both on the external dimension and on the European integration dimension,” said the official.

Mihai Popșoi took over as minister of foreign affairs following the resignation tendered by Nicu Popescu. The position of minister for European affairs will be held by Cristina Gerasimov, who will also be Moldova’s chief negotiator in the process of integration into the European Union. She will also head the Office for European Integration – a new entity that will be set up.
