Schools, kindergartens and apartment blocks in areas hit by storms recently will be checked by the Emergencies Inspectorate, as ordered by prime minister Maia Sandu. This comes after a nine-storied block of flats collapsed in Otaci town Wednesday evening.
“Thirty-six families went through moments of horror, people lost their lifelong belongings. Thank goodness everybody is safe and sound. People were evacuated out of the building and provided with temporary accommodation,” said Maia Sandu.
She added that it’s important that no one is allowed to enter the damaged building in an attempt to retrieve belongings. “Rescuers will handle this, if they deem it safe.”
Maia Sandu also instructed relevant authorities to evaluate the damages and find the best way to compensate the victims for the loss of homes and assets.
