Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev requested technical certification for all industrial enterprises in Moldova, in order to achieve “a radical reorganisation and the successful implementation of their development plans, including by applying a more efficient mechanism in the cooperation between the specialised ministry and the economic entities in the sector”. This requirement has been made at the session of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure. The PM said that “Starting 2001, industry marked the end of the decline registered during ten years. The increase in the production output is noticeable. Still, Moldova’s potential is not taken full advantage of”. The PM asserts that for a major leap, the country needs all the preconditions – an adequate legislative foundation, an attractive and predictable tax system as well as a favourable international situation. The PM has also requested working out and application of well-established concept of attracting investments in the country’s industrial sector, as well as some actions on increasing the competitiveness of local goods. Another issue the PM referred to was the preparation of qualified staff for the industrial sector. In the context, the head of Executive, pleaded for the reorganisation of the actual system of professional-technical training, which would meet the requirements of the labour market. At the same time, Vasile Tarlev advocated for an active participation of industrial enterprises in this process, which would result in more possibilities for practical trainings and job opportunities for young specialists. In 2006 the industrial enterprises of all ownership forms produced an output valued at MDL 22.2 bln, based on data from the National Statistics Bureau. The index of industrial production compared to January – December 2005 in comparable prices stood at 93.1%, and in December at 94.1%. The decrease in the volume of industrial production was caused by the reduction in the volume of production of enterprises producing wine – twice (holding a 10% share in the industrial output, it caused the decrease in the total industrial output by 9.4%); distilled alcoholic drinks (37%), tobacco (23%), oils and fats (9%), paper and cardboard (9%), glass and glass articles (6%).
