PM accuses local authorities of subversion

Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi described the failure of 11 districts to pay increased salaries to the teachers as a subversive activity, demanding their immediate and unconditioned disbursement, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The money is intentionally kept away in the accounts of the local authorities in order to induce instability in the society”, Greceany told the Cabinet's meeting on Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc opined that the actions of the district heads and mayors who disobeyed the Government's decision had an electoral character. At the same meeting, Greceanyi has pointed out that the Government has no debt obligations as to the payment of salaries, pensions or other allowances from the State Budget and there are no threats that their payment will be delayed in the future. According to the Ministry of Finance, the Government allocated 467 million lei for salary raises. On February 20, the Ministry of Finance transferred 42 million lei of the total sum to cover the raise of the salary for January, and another portion of 42 million lei was payed out on March 2, to increase the salary for February.
