The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) calls on all the political parties to unite and condemn the actions that run counter to the country’s interests. The Lib-Dems also call on the local authorities of the first and second levels to come together and adopt public statements in support of Moldova’s statehood and European course and condemning the splitting and separatism. The PLDM urges the competent state institutions to take all the measures needed to foil any attempt to destabilize the situation in the country, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said the events in Gagauzia, which the organizers called referendums, showed that in Moldova there are political forces that want to promote separatism and to generate conflicts. “A number of political groups are taking steps to manipulate the public opinion, to stir things up and to destabilize the situation,” he stated.
He underlined that the PLDM condemns these actions, taken with the involvement of external forces. “The actions of these political adventurers have nothing in common with the Moldovan people. As they are unable to do something definite, these forces become involved in the achievement of false ideas,” said the politician, adding that the PLDM condemns any statement that incites to disobedience. “In these moments of great importance, we call upon everyone to act in concert and in a responsible way.”
Two plebiscites were held in Gagauzia on February 2. The central authorities consider them illegal. The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon later suggested holding similar referendums in all the country’s settlements.
