PLDM does not have firm position on Vlad Plahotniuc’s legislative initiative

The Liberal Democratic Party does not have a firm position on the legislative initiative of the First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc, who suggested that the heads of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Audit Office, and the Central Election Commission should be designated by the parliamentary opposition. Related statements were made by the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat after the January 18 meeting of the Council of the Alliance for European Integration, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The fact that these heads represent the opposition or not does not count. By such decisions, we cannot depoliticize the institutions. We do not have a firm position on this subject and cannot pronounce on it clearly. We must analyze the issue in detail. If we continue with such initiatives to offer the opposition more advantages, we can find ourselves in the situation that all the powers will be transferred to them and the government will applaud,” stated Vlad Filat. He also said that these institutions cannot be used as political instruments. “Such institutions as the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Commission cannot be used as political cudgels or party instruments to increase the rating. There are other democratic processes. You must formulate ideas and discuss them with the people,” said Vlad Filat. Vlad Plahotniuc Friday submitted a legislative initiative, suggesting that the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Audit Office, and the Central Election Commission should be managed by the parliamentary opposition.
