The civil society platform “For Europe” calls on the European Union to attentively monitor the use of the money it donates to Moldova. According to the signatories, the authorities during the last few years allowed different abuses, including in spending the foreign funds, using the pretext of the European integration, IPN reports.
The platform urges the European Union to impose more restrictions for providing assistance and to support civil society in its efforts to work out methodologies for monitoring the impact of the European funds spent by the Government, including for promoting Moldova’s European course. The EU should demand that the authorities ensure transparency in the decision-making process and the efficiency of the public-private dialogue, taking into account the commitments undertaken by Moldova within the Association Agreement.
The platform’s representatives consider that if these conditions are met, the people will regain confidence in the European bodies and in the European Union in general. The member organizations of the platform reassert their commitment to step up efforts for bringing Moldova closer to the European values and standards, but consider that this is possible only if the government fulfills its obligations in a correct and transparent manner.
Created on June 30, 2014, the civil society platform “For Europe” brings together nongovernmental organizations, public institutions and other players from society, uniting them around the national idea that Moldova must be prepared for joining the EU.
