A new criminal investigation related to raider attacks in Moldova has recently been started in Cyprus against First Deputy Speaker and businessman Vlad Plahotniuc. The announcement was made on Monday, June 18, by the head of Antimafia Movement Sergiu Mocanu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sergiu Mocanu says that the Cypriot authorities started the prosecution because of the involvement of some Cypriot citizens in the raider attacks. The sentence in this case will have a resounding impact in Moldova, as authorities had tried to hide Plahotniuc’s crimes under his political immunity, forgetting that this immunity isn’t international, claims the Antimafia Movement leader. “Prime Minister Vlad Filat is the only one to blame for this situation because he didn’t have the boldness to fire Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco, a marionette of Plahotniuc”, declared Mocanu. He added that in the near future another international criminal file would prove that Plahotniuc was the head of huge money laundering network in Russia, Latvia and Moldova. Moreover, in the same near future a national TV channel could have its accounts closed at the demand of another channel, owned by the First Deputy Speaker. Sergiu Mocanu lambasted Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu, accusing him of becoming a millionaire in euro terms after being paid by Vlad Plahotniuc for having a friendly stance towards him. “The impact of the London criminal charges against Plahotniuc, related to another raider attack, which was spoken about in the press recently, might influence the Europeans’ decision to accept the visa regime liberalization”, claimed Sergiu Mocanu. The Antimafia Movement leader went on to claim that Vladimir Voronin was also afraid of Plahotniuc’s money and influence. To support the allegation, Mocanu noted that the Communist leader hesitated to say anything about the First Deputy Speaker’s absence from the last two meetings of the Parliament, and had MP Grigore Petrenco do it instead.
