PL suggests unifying customs posts with Romania’s

The Liberal Party (PL) aims to implement the modernized Community Customs Code in Moldova after the elections. This code allows the countries situated in the immediate vicinity of the EU to unify their customs posts with the posts of the EU member states. The party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference that only this way will they root out corruption in the customs service, IPN reports.

The Liberal leader considers that the Government must make an approach to the Romanian executive and ask unifying the Customs of the two states. As a result, there will be only one checkpoint with customs officers of both of the countries. The people are cheeked one time. If there are more persons in an office, it’s not so easy to ask for and offer bribe.

Mihai Ghimpu is convinced that the unification of the customs services of Romania and Moldova will lead to a bilateral decision on the unification of the Customs of Moldova and Ukraine. This way, Chisinau will be able to control the Transnistrian segment of the border as well.

PL deputy chairman Valeriu Munteanu said that a number of states use such a practice, like Ukraine and Poland for example.

The Liberal Party’s government program includes the unification of the border with Romania. The Liberals are convinced that Romania will accept such an initiative.
