The Liberal Party (PL) demands recounting the votes cast for the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) and the ballots declared invalid. “We decided to ask for a recount in order to prevent speculations about vote rigging. We will file an application to the Centru district court so that a recount is performed the next days,” the party’s first vice president Dorin Chirtoaca, who is running for a new tenure as mayor of Chisinau, told a news conference on June 9, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the number of invalidated ballots (6,700) is over three times higher than in the previous early legislative elections. The PL asked the Central Election Commission to order taking the curtains of polling booths away in the second round of voting and the next elections so as to avoid vote rigging. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the PL requested additionally examining the situation in Stauceni, where persons who do not live there were issued with residence visas several days before the elections so that they could vote. Asked to comment on the accusations of corruption made by his opponent Igor Dodon, Dorin Chirtoaca said the Communists spread lies and make insinuations with the aim of misleading public opinion.
