Photojournalist Nicolae Pojoga passed away. A dedicated teacher and accomplished artist, he contributed significantly to the formation of new generations of photographers, teaching multimedia courses that combined photographic technique with a deep understanding of visual art at a number of universities, according to a message of the Ministry of Culture, quoted by IPN.

"His death represents a huge loss for the artistic community, for the culture of our country, and also for all those who knew and appreciated him. His legacy remains alive through his works and through those who will pass on the knowledge and values he shared," said Minister Sergiu Prodan.

"Thanks to him, we have images of our real time history: of the national Renaissance, of the Romanian Revolution, of the Flower Bridge, of the Nistru War, of the first hoisting of the Tricolor on the Presidential Building. It is also thanks to him, as well as to his student, Victor Gălușcă, that Zaharia Cușnir's photo archive was recovered, offering him the unexpected chance of posthumous glory," reads a post published by Cartier Publishing House, with which the master had long cooperation relations.

Nicolae Pogoja was born on April 17, 1950 in Ciuciuleni commune of Nisporeni district. He was a correspondent, photojournalist and war cameraman in a number of regional conflicts, filmed and photographed the 1989 Revolution in Romania and the 1992 Nistru War. He was a lecturer at the USM, ULIM and the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts. He was a member of the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova and the Union of Photographers of the Republic of Moldova. In 2021, for exceptional achievements, civic spirit and plenary involvement in the life of society, Nicolae Pojoga was given the Order of the Republic, which is the highest state award.

Photojournalist Nicolae Pojoga died on January 19, at night. He was 74 years old.
