The Prosecutor General Office said it formally submitted to the Government a package of anti-corruption legislative proposals, one of which seeks to strip all dignitaries of immunity from prosecution, IPN reports.
The package also contains proposals to introduce criminal liability for members of collegiate bodies, optimize disciplinary procedures against prosecutors, and re-evaluate the laws adopted during the time Moldova was considered a captured state.
Another proposal aims to re-coneptualize the subject-matter jurisdiction of the Anticorruption Prosecution Service so that it only prosecutes grand corruption cases. Also, the PGO proposes establishing specialty courts for anticorruption cases.
Finally, the PGO proposes that petty corruption cases, with the value of undue gains up to 5000 lei, be decriminalized and classified as infractions instead.
Presenting the proposals at press conference earlier this week, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo expressed his willingness to support and actively participate in “the implementation of concerted measures at the national level aimed at strengthening the rule of law, defending human rights and freedoms based on constitutional principles, international standards and the law of the Republic of Moldova.
