Petru Bogatu: It is embarrassing to protest against an electoral system

Protests in democracy are justified when the government crosses the “red line”, but it is embarrassing to protest against an electoral system, analyst Petru Bogatu said in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, making reference to the statements of the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase about possible massive protests on the day the new electoral system is voted in Parliament, IPN reports.

According to him, in the current conditions in Moldova it is embarrassing to call on the people to protest against a new voting system after ignoring the debates to which you were invited. “Andrei Nastase and other politicians of the opposition have refused for several months to have a dialog with the power. For the first time, the representatives of the government insistently invite the opposition to direct public debates. Usually it was the opposite,” stated Petru Bogatu.

Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Political and Administrative Sciences of the State University of Moldova Alexandru Solcan said he does not think that the replacement of the electoral system is a reason for protest. “Any other parliamentary majority can change the system after the next legislative elections. This is not a tragedy and is not an irreversible process,” he stated.
