The assessment commission determined that the performance of the suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo during November 29 – October 5, 2021 was “unsatisfactory”. According to the report, Alexandr Stoinoglo not only didn’t contribute to strengthening the integrity of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), but acted against the law, violating the principle of integrity, IPN reports.

The published report says the managerial policies pursued by Alexandr Stoinoglo didn’t help remove the suspicions of lack of integrity about the PGO’s administration in a transparent, efficient and appropriate manner, but these suspicions had the capacity to affect the public’s confidence in the PGO and in his person.

The commission held that the defective performance of the suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo in the case concerning the expulsion of Turkish teachers led to criminal charges against him. Alexandr Stoianoglo failed to apply managerial practices in line with the constitutional objectives of the PGO. He used practices “to unjustly tolerate” acts of corruption as methods of ensuring “obedience” and favors.

The report is to be communicated to the Superior Council of Prosecutors for examination and for taking the required decision. The Council’s meeting was scheduled for May 18 and the examination of the report was included in the agenda.

Alexandr Stoianoglo was arrested last October and was subsequently placed under house arrest on charges of abuse of office, bribery, perjury, and facilitation of an organized criminal group. The suspended prosecutor general pleads not guilty on all counts. He filed two complaints to the European Court of Human Rights.
