The People’s Republican Party will propose its own candidate for the office of Chisinau Mayor, Nicolae Andronic, the leader of the party told a news conference on April 4. The leader of PRP did not make the name of the candidate public, though specifying it is about a party member. At the same time, he said that PRP will try to take the votes of the communist candidates, counting as well on the votes of those who usually do not attend elections. Victor Josu, vice-chairman of PRP, added that the party will not have reasons to blush for its candidate, as it was not ashamed to propose Mihail Formuzal, the incumbent governor of Gagauzia. Andronic further stated that PRP will not sign the “Conduct Code of the 2007 election campaign”, which he qualified as a “deal between a cannibal and his victim”, because the document was signed by several political parties, including the Communist Party. Andronic said that the Code should be first of all signed by President Vladimir Voronin “who is the main offender of electoral laws”. Andronic mentioned that the present election campaign will be “tougher in what concerns the violations committed by CPRM, compared to 2005”. At the same time, the PRP leader said that the party he leads will respect the Electoral Code and the democratic norms stipulated in the Constitution of Moldova. Andronic urged the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and Moldova to disallow the interference of the representatives of the Orthodox Church in the election campaign.
