People aged 65 to be allowed to work further
People aged 65 or older will be allowed to work further. This is stipulated in a legislative initiative of the Government, presented on Wednesday meeting, July 26, in order to change the article 82 of the Labor Code.
This issue was included on the agenda of the Wednesday meeting of the executive at the request of Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, who has mentioned that this matter was subject of debates in the mass media. In his opinion, canceling the collective employment contract once the retirement age reached, as the law 154 of 28 March 2003 says, is an injustice towards old people.
The deputy minister of Economy and Commerce, Sergiu Sainciuc, announced that the provisions of that article would refer only to managers, once they turn 65. According to him, in case of the other employees, canceling individual labor contract will be done „on general basis”.
The Government’s legislative initiative is due to be discussed and approved by the Parliament.
