Pensioners who continue work should be exempted from paying health insurance, PDCM

The pensioners who retire, but continue work should not contribute to the health insurance fund, the president of the Party of Development and Unity of Moldova Ion Chicu stated in a meeting with teachers of the Chisinau Sport School, IPN reports.

Ion Chicu noted that a lot of teachers, doctors and persons working in other areas where a shortage of staff is witnessed continue work after retirement. However, even if under the pension law the pensioners are medically insured by the state, they continue to pay health insurance.

“We drafted a bill under which the persons who reach retirement and continue work do not have to pay contributions to the health insurance fund. Under the law, the pensioners are insured by the state. It is not right for the people who retire to pay these 9% even if they have rights by law. This way, we will contribute to reducing the burden on the salary,” said Ion Chicu, being quoted in a press release.

The PDCM said the differentiated retirement age of women and men, with a lower retirement age for women, should be restored. It will propose a bill that enables the women to increase the calculation basis of the pension after the age of 57, if they continue work, and will suggest instituting the 13th pension for pensioners whose income is lower than the minimum subsistence level.
