PDS accuses former governmental newspaper of publishing libellous articles at ruling coalition’s command
The Social Democracy Party (PDS) expresses indignation at the persistent attacks of the “Moldova Suverana” newspaper against cultural personalities in Moldova, as well as the independent press.
According to a statement from PDS, at the ruling coalition’s command, the newspaper attacks everyone who is critical of the government. Similarly to the publications of the red-orange coalition partners, it attacks notorious names, including the writers Grigore Vieru, Dumitru Matcovschi, Anatol Codru, Nicolae Dabija, Andrei Vartic, the newspapermen Val Butnaru, Nicolae Negru, Aneta Grosu and others. Media institutions which did not let themselves be recruited into the propaganda machine of the communist regime– ProTV Сhisinau, Timpul de Dimineata, Jurnal de Chisinau, Literatura si Arta, Ziarul de Garda, are denigrated at the ruling coalition’s order.
“These attacks are not accidental, taking into consideration the massive campaign launched by communists and their allies for sharing the media landscape in Moldova. The respective campaign has already attracted the attention of international institutions and foreign countries who warn about the duty to respect democratic principles”, the statement says.
PDS say the attacks ordered by the communist regime are attempts against the cultural values of the people and their proponents. PDS requests that the country’s leadership and its bodies stop the denigration campaign against cultural personalities and independent mass-media, because these actions can only lead to destabilisation and conflicts inside the society.
