Salaries of up to 20,000 lei for teachers and of up to 10,000 lei for educators, apartments for young specialists and free laptops for education system employees are among the promises in the education sector stipulated by the Democratic Party in its country program “Moldova Different”. In the field of culture, the Democrats promise salaries of at least 10,000 for employees of national institutions. They also aim to launch a national program to restore the houses of culture in villages and towns, IPN reports.
The promises were presented by the PDM’s vice president Monica Babuc, ex-minister of education, in a press briefing. She said the education sector that includes culture is one of the most important lines of the PDM as a country development view in the post-electoral period. In education, without which the development of a country is impossible, the PDM suggests doubling the allocation for stationary from 2,000 lei to 4,000 lei. For harmonizing the efforts made by teachers and parents to ensure the education process, it is proposed adopting a parent education program. Once in five years, the teachers will be able to ask for a free ticket to spas. The Democrats can also work out a system of performance grants for teachers who are eager to develop their professional skills by organizing different educational services.
The vice president of the PDM reminds that while their party was in power since 2018 it had continuously pursued the goal of increasing teachers’ pays. In the period, the PDM managed to increase the salaries of teachers by over 80%. Knowing the problem of lack of teachers, he tried to stimulate the young people to work in education, trebling the allowance for young specialists to 120,000 lei. An allowance of 1,000 lei was paid to all the teachers of pre-university education institutions from which over 50,000 teachers benefitted. They also reduced the teaching norm for young specialists to 75%.
Among the accomplishments in culture, Monica Babuc mentioned the rise in the salaries of culture specialists and the essential changes made to the legislation in this field. In the future, the Democrats propose working out a state investment program in culture for musical instruments, theater decorations, costumes, etc. and supporting the people of culture so that these start entrepreneurial activity.
