The promotion of education for peace is a very topical subject and should represent a universal preoccupation when an increasing number of young people are involved in terrorist acts and extremist activities, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in the meeting “Making education for peace” that was organized by Romania in New York, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Pavel Filip said the security measures are not sufficient for counteracting the scourge, while education for peace should start in schools by introducing programs centering on the prevention and reduction of violence. “In conflict or post-conflict areas, the education process and the efforts to strengthen peace should be supported by youth policies that would envision professional, vocational training possibilities and possibilities of taking part in community development projects,” stated the Premier.
He noted that the key to success in promoting education for peace resides in the implementation of a set of multidimensional activities. “At internal level, the Republic of Moldova makes effort for the policies and activities concerning the youth to contain elements centering on the promotion of tolerance, culture of peace and non-violence, appreciation of diversity and human rights,” said Pavel Filip.
