Pavel Filip instructs to verify quality of food products in education institutions

Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested to immediately check the quality and period of validity of the food products purchased for education institutions, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the request was made following the cases of public tender contest rigging and delivery of spoiled food products to education institutions identified by anticorruption prosecutors.

In this connection, inspections will be carried out at all preschool, primary and secondary education institutions and at military units.

In order to ensure the food safety of people, the Premier asked that the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Defense and the National Food Safety Agency should open internal inquiries into the way the managers of these institutions monitored this activity.

At least 23 persons, public functionaries and economic entities, are suspected of fixing tender contests to provide schools and kindergartens of Chisinau with food products. It was established that some of the winners of tender contests supplied spoiled products to education institutions. In telephone conversations tapped during the investigation, a number of suspects admit that ‘stinking hens’, ‘beaten apples’ and ‘fish with parasites’ are delivered to kindergartens.
