Pavel Filip: I can declare with firmness that we will have program with IMF

“Until now I said that I’m optimistic about the chances of having an arrangement with the International Monetary Fund, but today, after all the negotiations and discussions we had, I can say with firmness that we will have a program with the IMF because the subjects that are yet to be clarified and finalized are technical in nature, “ Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in a press briefing held in concert with the head of the IMF mission Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, IPN reports.

According to the Premier, the money provided by the IMF is important for the situation in which the Republic of Moldova is now, but this is a secondary aspect. “The main point is that the reform program that we are discussing with the International Monetary Fund will help us ensure a financial balance at its end and we will become a stable economy. The value of the expertise and support that we get is even higher in the long run than the sum itself,” stated Pavel Filip.

The head of the IMF mission said the discussions focused on the outlook for growth, financial sector policies, the sustainability of public finances and structural reforms needed to improve the business climate. “Agreements were reached in a number of critical areas, including on reforms to enhance governance and transparency in the banking sector, to ensure the financial sustainability of the energy sector and to achieve medium-term fiscal policy objectives,” stated Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar.

The IMF mission ended its visit to Moldova that was made during July 5-15.
