Passion for fishing costs Straseni man life
A man lost his life when fishing on the ice of the Ghidighici Lake on
February 8. The ice yielded under his weight and the man fell into the
water. Several other fishermen rushed to help him, but their attempts
failed. The body of the man was taken out by frogmen.
Dorina Sochirca, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies
Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the ice was only several
centimeters thick, but the fishermen ventured onto it, ignoring the
warnings issued by the Service.
The man was 50 and was from Straseni town. Another two fishermen who
tried to help him had been in the cold water for a period and were taken
to the hospital with hypothermia. Several frogmen who took part in the
rescue operation also suffered hypothermia.
