Members of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) requested the Central Election Commission to establish 198 polling stations abroad – by 59 stations more than in the presidential elections. The party makes reference to the over 100,000 Moldovans who preregistered for the July 11 snap parliamentary elections, IPN reports.

“At the presidential elections of 2020, over 250,000 citizens who are abroad announced their intention to vote. Owing to you, we managed to free the presidential institution from thieves. On July 11, we have the chance to free Parliament from thieves. It will be hard to do this without the diaspora,” said the PAS acting president Igor Grosu.

MP Sergiu Litvinenco noted that the voter turnout in last year’s presidential elections was impressive. “Regrettably, the ballots weren’t enough and many could not vote. For others, the experience of voting in elections meant waiting for hours at polling stations or enormous distances covered up to the polling station,” said the MP.

PAS asks to increase the number of polling stations in a number of cities in Germany, Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, Israel, the U.S., etc. According to the MPs, there were long lines at the polling stations in these cities at the previous elections, while the number of ballots was insufficient.

PAS MP Galina Sajin reminded that at the snap parliamentary elections, the people can vote even if they didn’t preregister on the CEC’s website. Preregistration is optional and has the task of informing the authorities about the settlements inhabited by Moldovans. The citizens can vote with a valid identity card with the accompanying loose leaf, the valid or expired passport of the sailor’s permit.
