PAS and PSRM won most seats of mayor in runoffs

As in the first round of the local elections, the Party of Action and Solidity (PAS) won most of the seats of mayor in the runoffs – 66. The Party of Socialist (PSRM) comes second with 41 seats of mayor. Also, 31 elected mayors ran as independents, IPN reports, with reference to the Central Election Commission.

According to CEC chairwoman Angelica Caraman, 30 elected mayors were fielded by the European Social Democratic Party, 22 by the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova, 17 by the Revival Party, 11 by the Liberal Democrat Party.

The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Respect Moldova Movement obtained by eight seats of mayor.

Our Party has six new mayors as a result of the runoffs. The Party of Change, the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing and the Modern Democratic Party obtained by five seats of mayor.

The candidates of the Party of Communists won the mayoralty in four localities, of the Party “League of Towns and Communes” - in three localities, while the National Alternative Movement, the National Liberal Party and the Party “Democracy at Home” gained by two seats of mayor. The Liberal Party, the Civic Congress, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and the Ecologist Green Party won by one seat.

In the first round of voting, the PAS also obtained the largest number of seats of mayors – 225. The PSRM ranked second with 99 elected mayors. The independent candidates in the first round of voting won 83 posts of mayor, while 57 independent candidates will contend in the runoffs. The European Social Democrat Party (ex-PDM) ranked fourth with 73 mayors elected in the first round.
