Parliament's Standing Bureau proposes holding elections on April 5
The Moldovan Parliament's Standing Bureau, which assembled on Tuesday, January 27, for its first sitting this year, decided to open the spring session of the Legislature on Monday, February 2. The members of the Standing Bureau proposed seting the date of the parliamentary elections for April 5, 2009. The decision is to be adopted at the first plenary session, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Parliament's press service.
According to Speaker Marian Lupu, the first two sittings of the session will take place on February 2 and 3. The MPs are to pass a series of key drafts related to economy and society. Among these: draft laws on improving the situation of some companies dealing in the agrifood sector, on the state's supervision of the public health, the draft Code on undersoil, the decision on approving the Youth National Strategy from 2009 to 2013, the frame accord between the Moldovan Government and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.
In accordance with article 61 of the Constitution and article 76 of the Election Code, the parliament's term is to end on March 7, 2009.
