Parliamentary working group to analyze electoral legislation

Parliament next week will adopt a decision that will primarily state the concerns about the invalidation of the early mayoral elections held in Chisinau. A working group will be set up in Parliament to analyze the electoral legislation and to formulate proposals for amending or interpreting the legal provisions on the silence day, election day, electoral agitation and other notions. Foreign experts will also be involved in this activity, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference at the PDM’s head office.

The Speaker said the Council of Europe’s expertise in this regard has been secured already. The same thing was discussed with colleagues from the EU and the U.S. Those from the Unnoted States will provide assistance concerning social media versus election campaigns and the electoral process.

As to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, Andrian Candu said the authorities will fulfil all the commitments assumed before the citizens, society and the foreign partners, especially the EU. All the initiated social and economic projects will be completed.

At the suggestion of the Group of the European People’s Party, the European Parliament, with 345 votes in favor, 160 abstentions and 35 votes against, adopted a resolution by which it recommends the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
