The display of advertising materials for gambling, such as lotteries, will be allowed at commercial units through which gambling means are distributed. One condition is that they do not exceed the A4 format. Also, advertising and audiovisual programs sponsored by legal entities that organize gambling between 10:00 p.m. and 07:00 a.m. will be allowed. The provisions are contained in a draft law that was given a final reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

Mandatory mentions will be made in advertising products about the negative impact of gambling, which will constitute at least 20% of the time or area of the advertising material.

Likewise, advertising in public or private periodicals is allowed, and the space reserved for advertising gambling with low social risk may not exceed 15% of the space of an issue of the edition.

Also, the National Lottery of Moldova will be able to publish on the website the results of gambling, organized in accordance with the legal provisions.

The draft law was proposed by MPs Radu Marian and Dorian Istratii. According to the authors, the changes are necessary in the context of the imposition of total restrictions on the dissemination of sports betting advertising. The sponsors specify that in most European countries, betting advertising is allowed, including at international sports competitions, which are broadcast live. The prohibition imposed by the legislation creates situations in which any broadcast of an international sporting event in the audiovisual space of Moldova violates the law.

The legislative changes will enter into force on the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
