Parliament to start monitoring enforcement of laws in a month

By the end of October or the beginning of November, the Parliament will start the first stage of monitoring the enforcement of laws, Speaker Marian Lupu said Friday, October 5. The chairmen of the parliamentary commissions shall present recommendations on how the monitoring will be carried out and what laws will be subject to the monitoring procedure. Obviously, the members of Parliament will not be able to cover all the legislation, so the laws will be selected according to their level of priority, the Speaker explained. Earlier in July, Lupu said that starting October, the Parliament would focus more attention on its power to monitor and control the enforcement of laws, without affecting the lawmaking process. In his words, a big number of pieces of legislation is not enough for a state based on the rule of law. The main condition is that these laws are observed and put into practice in a proper and equitable manner. Most of the foreign experts also assert that the proper enforcement of the legislation is one of Moldova’s main problems in aligning itself with the European standards.
