Parliament to decide on Shor’s immunity Friday

The requests submitted by the General Prosecutor’s Office to strip MP Ilan Shor of immunity will be heard in Parliament on Friday in a meeting behind closed doors. This was confirmed to IPN by Parliament’s chief media officer Svetlana Rudenco.

The PGO has requested that Shor be stripped of immunity from criminal proceedings, including arrest and prosecution, on nine separate charges. This includes fraud and money laundering in particularly large amounts, creation or leading of a criminal organization, perjury, embezzlement, and abuse of office, among others.

Under Parliament’s regulations, the matter will be put to a secret vote.

Ilan Shor, who has been absconding from justice since June 2019, reacted by saying this was “a show staged” by President Sandu to divert public attention from pressing problems. Shor was previously stripped of immunity in August 2019, when Dumitru Robu was also the acting PGO head.
