Parliament rejects financing for purchasing aircrafts

MPs rejected at Friday’s sitting of the Parliament, November 17, allotting the sum of MDL 93.1 mln from the state budget for purchasing airplanes. The draft law, which was elaborated by the Ministry of Finance, stipulates amendment to the state budget for 2006 by allotting over MDL 90 mln to the State Administration of Civil Aviation for completing the statutory capital of the State Company “Air Moldova” with the aim of purchasing airplanes. The draft law was not accepted by the opposition MPs, who declared that this draft is not properly prepared, it does not contain the necessary information, and others qualified it as “suspicious”. Several MPs declared that these financial means could be used for other necessities, and not for a bankrupt company. As a result of the debates which lasted more than an hour, the MPs decided to forward the draft to the specialized committee for additional examination. The draft law was elaborated by the Ministry of Finances, as a result of Government’s orders to allot financial means for renewing the fleet of the air company, according to the provisions of the Civil Aviation Development Plan for 2005-2010, and was approved by the Government at the sitting of October 25. At present, the fleet of “Air Moldova” has 4 airplanes: two A320, an Embraer 120 and a YAK-40. “Air Moldova” was founded via a presidential decree on January 12 1993.
