Parliament holds sitting, protests expected downtown

The legislative body led by the president of the Party of Socialists Zinaida Grecheanyi came together at 9am on June 9 to continue the sitting started one day earlier. The agenda includes the adoption of laws stipulated in the temporary political agreement between the MPs of the Political Bloc ACUM DA PAS and the PSRM, IPN reports.

A stage was set up in the central square of Chisinau last night. It is not clear who stages the events and when these start, but there are posters with “PDM” on them placed near the stage. On Facebook, they say people from districts yesterday evening were invited to come in an organized way to the protests against the new government formed by the PSRM and ACUM. The Chisinau City Hall earlier authorized the PDM to mount events in the Great National Assembly Square during June 6-9 by an order signed by deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu.

Tents were pitched last night in front of the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor General’s Office situated on Ștefan ce Mare și Sfânt Blvd not far from each other. The people who came to stay in tents were organized by former Democratic MP Constantin Țuțu. He told journalists that the persons from tents protest against what happened in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova yesterday, after ACUM and the PSRM formed a parliamentary majority. According to Constantin Țuțu, this means selling of the country, but they care about this country.

The police reported no incidents following the putting up of the tents.
