Parliament formalizes 10-day deadline for setting up parliamentary groups

Parliament on Friday adopted the Liberals' proposal to set a strict deadline of 10 days from the legislative's first session for setting up formal parliamentary groups, Info-Prim Neo reports. Debating the measure on a second reading before adopting it, the majority rejected Lib-Dem Tudor Deliu's proposal to make the measure effective starting with the next parliament. Deliu argued that it was wrong to “change the rules in the middle of the game”. Prior to the adopted amendment, the Parliament's Regulations stated that “as a rule parliamentary groups are created within 10 days”. The amendment removes the “as a rule” margin, which the Liberals argued was too loose.
