Parliament expects from Government to elaborate next development strategy of Moldova
The Parliament will continue the dialogue with the Executive on obtaining a clear answer related to the strategic plan for the next 4-5 years, the Speaker of the Parliament, Marian Lupu declared on Thursday, July 27, at a press conference.
Lupu declared that the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EGPRS) is a medium term national program of development. This year the implementation term of this important strategy expires, the Speaker said. Taking into consideration the fact that the document was approved by the Parliament through a law, the Government will present a report on its implementation. Lupu is sure that a detailed analyze, both of progresses and failures, as well as of their causes is needed in order to use this experience in the future.
The Speaker ascertained that at the moment no clear viewpoint on the format of the next development strategy of Moldova was reached. Long and medium term programs are working in the European countries, fact that could be an example for Moldova, Lupu declared. According to the quoted source, elaborating and implementing such a program is absolutely necessary because of several reasons. It is needed to formulate very clearly the objectives and the development priorities in order to have a systematic, equilibrated and well structured document for the dialogue with foreign partners, Lupu mentioned.
According to the activity program of the Parliament, the standing commissions heard during this year special reports of the responsible ministries regarding the implementation of EGPRS.
The Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy was approved by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in December 2004. The document includes the medium term development concept of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the actions the Government must undertake in order to diminish poverty.
