Parliament confirms composition of CEC

The legislature on February 11 unanimously adopted the draft decision concerning the nominal composition of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Info-Prim Neo reports. The CEC consists of nine members. Eight of them are named by the parliamentary groups, while one by the Speaker. The PLDM fielded Iurie Ciocan, Vasile Gafton and Stefan Creanga for the post of CEC member, the PL - Stefan Uratu, while the PDM – Svetlana Gutu. Vadim Motsarski, Igor Vremea, and Alexandru Simionov were put forward by the PCRM. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu on February 10 issued a decree, designating Andrei Volentir as member of the CEC. The Commission's chairman will be elected by the members of the CEC. Iurie Ciocan, who had been secretary of the CEC in the previous composition, told the reporters that the new members of the Commission must renounce membership of political parties in the shortest time. The legislation does not stipulate an exact term, but it must happen within a month, he stated.
