Parliament comes together for extraordinary session Aug. 16-17

The legislative body will convene for an extraordinary session to examine draft normative documents of socioeconomic and political importance for the Republic of Moldova. At the request of Speaker Igor Grosu, the legislature’s Standing Bureau will have a meeting tomorrow, August 16, IPN reports.

The Standing Bureau will consider the Speaker’s request to call an extraordinary session of Parliament for August 16-17.

The initiative to convoke Parliament for an extraordinary session was put forward after the Cabinet presented a number of bills that are to be examined as a matter of urgency. The Speaker argued that a series of legislative proposals referring to energy efficiency, the cadastral sector, the social system reform and others need to be considered.

The draft agenda of the extraordinary session of Parliament is to be approved by the Standing Bureau that will meet at 10am on Wednesday.

Under the Parliament’s regulations, if the legislature does not have an ordinary session, it can come together for an extraordinary or special session at the request of the President, Parliament Speaker or one third of the MPs.
