Parliament adopts amendments that could lead to lower gas tariffs

The legislative body passed amendments to the Law on Natural Gas by which a provision adopted last year was annulled. According to the author of the bill, Lib-Dem Stefan Creanga, the amendments could lead to a reduction of about 5% in the current natural gas tariffs, IPN reports

Stefan Creanga argued that the expression ‘transportation of natural gas’ was supplemented with the words ‘and international transit natural gas transportation services” and this amendment thus ran counter to the EU Directive on the domestic  natural gas market.

The author said that after the amendment took effect in 2014, a conflict appeared between the norms of the Law on the Natural Gas. Moreover, the given amendment runs counter to the provisions of the Energy Community Treaty by which Moldova pledged to transpose and implement the Community acquis in the thermoelectric, natural gas, environment, competition, energy efficiency, oil products and statistics sectors.
