The Democratic Action Party (PAD), which is headed by unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea, marks one year of the foundation on May 3. Among the party’s accomplishments, Mihai Godea enumerated the participation in the election of the head of state, the contribution to bringing again a democratic mayor to the Chisinau City Hall and to penalizing the Russian ambassador, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a press briefing on Thursday, the PAD chairman said that today it is a year since he set up by himself an organization, wishing to remain free in thinking, expression and action. “It is hard to go against the state machinery, but the good news is that I have never been alone. I had trustworthy persons nearby and we now are proud to say that the Democratic Action Party has thousands of members. We are confident and do what we should to achieve our objectives,” said Mihai Godea.
He also said that one of the most important events in which the PAD became actively involved was the election of the President of Moldova this March. He stressed that he decided to give his vote to Nicolae Timofti only after credible arguments were presented to him. He did it not for personal favor, but for the people’s benefit.
Another achievement is the solution to the political crisis proposed by him last autumn. He suggested identifying three Communist lawmakers who would be wiling to vote for the ruling alliance’s candidate, but his proposal wasn’t taken into account owing to the ambitions of certain government officials. But this move had an effect as another three members left the PCRM soon.
Mihai Godea said that the PAD helped keep a democratic mayor with European views at the Chisinau City Hall. “By our positions and actions, we obtained the penalization of the Russian ambassador Kuzmin and the holding of parliamentary hearings on the Transnistrian issue. We managed to involve Parliament in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. Owing to our intervention, Ambassador Neguta, who seriously damaged Moldova’s national interests, was recalled,” he said, adding that the party will put forward other important initiatives.
At the start of last May, MP Mihai Godea left the Liberal Democratic Party and ran independently in the mayoral elections in Chisinau, initiating the creation of the Democratic Alternative Platform. On July 21, the leaders of the platform announced the launch of the political organization “Democratic Action Party”.
