P.A.C.E. rapporteurs for Moldova arrive in Chisinau
The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Moldova, Josette Durrieu and Egidijus Vareikis, arrive in Chisinau on March 12-16 for a fact-collection visit. According to the parliamentary press service, the European officials will meet Monday with leaders of the parliamentary factions, while on March 15 they are set for a summarising meeting with Speaker Marian Lupu and will meet with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin later.
The PACE corapporteurs will meet Monday, at 09:00, with Dumitru Diacov, leader of the Democrat Party faction, and they are set for a meeting with Serafim Urechean, chairman of the parliamentary faction representing the Our Moldova Alliance, later. They will meet later with Vlad Cubreacov, chairman of the Christian Democratic parliamentary faction, and Durrieu and Vareikis will finally meet with Eugenia Ostapciuc, leader of the Communist faction. All the meetings will last 50 minutes each.
The summarising meeting with Marian Lupu will start at 16:50 on Wednesday and it will also last 50 minutes. The PACE co-rapporteurs will meet with President Vladimir Voronin at 18:00.
PACE adopted last resolution on Moldova on October 4, 2005. Its general conclusion was that “Moldova has been a member of the Council of Europe for 10 years and it has advanced significantly on the path of democratic reforms but a number of important commitments have not yet been met in a satisfactory manner.”
