As of April 10, the state of 810 persons with mild forms of COVID-19, who were receiving treatment at home, worsened and the patients needed hospitalization, Marina Golovaci, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, stated in a news conference centering on the epidemiological situation in Moldova. More than 8,400 persons have been included in home treatment until now and 2,200 cases of these are active ones.
National Public Health Agency director Nicolae Furtună said that more than 22,000 people contracted the virus in Moldova so far. About 6,000 are active cases. The death toll from COVID-19 stands at 721. Another 400 patients are in a serious state.
The infection incidence in Moldova is 6,363 per 1 million people, with the incidence rate going up. The death rate is 207 deaths per 1 million people. The fatality rate has been constant at 3.3% during the past three weeks.
The number of new infections with the novel coronavirus during the past three weeks has stabilized at about 1,550 cases a week. The average age of the infected persons is 47. The women are more affected than the men. The average incubation period is five days. The cases of import do not exceed 1%. More than 1,000 children have become infected by now. They include small children who contracted the virus from the mother.
The average age of those who died was slightly over 66 and most of the victims suffered from at least one disease. The number of cases of infection among healthcare workers has decreased during the past few weeks.
Asked how the medical waste is managed, including the used masks and gloves, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said that two technical assistance projects are implemented in the healthcare sector and one of them aims to develop a platform for processing medical waste.
Viorica Dumbrăveanu noted that the ordinances concerning the distribution of the batches of medical assistance offered to Moldova were published on the Ministry’s website. The distribution is based on the assessment of needs. The platform tender.health provides information about public procurement.
