More than 67% of the population of the Republic of Moldova believes the country follows an incorrect path, while about 22% considers the direction is correct, show data provided by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Association’s vice president Andrei Dumbrăveanu, about 25% or each fourth respondent said 2019 was more difficult than 2018, 20% said it was easier, while approximately 52% believe it was the same. “Practically no changes occurred or, if they occurred, they were minimal as 76% of the population considers we stagnate if things are not worse,” he stated.

Some 6% of those polled said they are very satisfied or rather satisfied with the economic situation in Moldova in the past five years. 30% said they are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, while 62% said they are not very satisfied or are fully dissatisfied. According to sociologists, the people are mostly dissatisfied with poverty, lack of money, high prices of products, unemployment and excessive migration.

24% of those surveyed said their incomes are not enough for bare essentials at least, 39% said they cover their basic necessities, while 25% said they are sufficient for decent living. 9% said they can even afford expensive things, with restrictions in other areas.

Only about 2% consider they form part of the high social group, while over 50% think they form part of the low and very low social groups.

Four in ten citizens believe the reforms in the country are somehow efficient and only 6% consider they are very efficient. For 41%, they are not very efficient. Each 11th respondent considers they are not at all efficient.

Some 58% of the citizens think the socioeconomic situation in the country is now calm, while 12% believe the opposite, considering it tense.

The poll was carried out during January 2-13, 2020 and covered a sample of 1,189 adult people from 83 localities of the Republic of Moldova, except for the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3.0%.
