On May 9, when it is celebrated Europe Day and the Day of Victory against fascism, more than 3,500 police employees and members of civil society will maintain public order all over Moldova. To ensure the smooth running of the about 250 planned events, the number of patrol inspectors was doubled. As the previous years, the access to the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, where a festive concert will take place, with alcoholic beverages will be banned, Marin Maxian, head of the General Public Security Division of the General Police Inspectorate, stated in a news conference on May 8, IPN reports.

Marin Maxian noted that to avoid traffic jams, the population is advised not to use personal cars and to travel by public transport. Those who possess a permit for carrying guns, if they intend to drink alcohol, are urged to leave the arms at home, in a safe place. Otherwise, they risk being stripped of the permit and even being tried.

A number of streets in Chisinau will be inaccessible to traffic as of May 8. The section of Stefan cel Mare Blvd between the streets Bodoni and Pushkin will be closed to traffic as from 10am. “We hope the drivers will be understanding and ask them to comply with the requests of patrol inspectors who will direct road traffic. If they park downtown, they should make sure that they do not create obstacles to traffic,” stated the official.

The central square of Chisinau on May 8 will host a concert with the involvement of Russian singers Oleg Gazmanov and Denis Maidanov. The concert will end with fireworks. The May 9 concert on the same venue will involve Irina Rimes, Delia, Blue and Thomas Anders of Modern Talking. During the day, there will be staged a commemoration march in central Chisinau and a meeting at the Eternity Complex, a parade of folk songs and traditions, a friendship round dance and surprises from master Eugen Doga, as well as car and motorcycle races.
