More than 30 hectares of sunflower were damaged by rain in Mândrești village of Telenești district. The heavy rainfall also destroyed local roads.

Mayor of Mândrești Vasile Sokolovski has told IPN that the sunflower fields are managed by a number of business entities. The extent of the damage hasn’t been yet gauged. Two-three weeks ago, a number of farmers had to plant again corn and sunflower on the fields affected by rain.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, almost 1 km of roads in Telenești town and another 7 km of roads in Coșcodeni village of Sângerei district were damaged by the torrential rain. In Prepelița village of the same district, the rain and high winds destroyed the roofs of a storehouse and a shop.

In Chisinau, two cars got stuck on Uzinelor St and trees and branches fell down on a number of streets. A series of streets and basements were flooded.

Commissions for emergencies are working on the spot to assess the damage.
