Over 25,000 persons immunized against COVID-19 during a week

More than 25,000 persons were vaccinated against COVID-19 during December 26 – January 2, down about 28% on a week before. The booster dose until January 2 was administered to 71,600 persons. The national one-dose coverage is about 30%, while the two-dose coverage is 28.7%. About 1.7 million vaccine doses had been administered so far, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Health.

The highest full vaccination rates were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau – 43% and in Soroca – 31%, while the lowest ones in ATU Gagauzia – 18%, in Sângerei and Leova –19%. In total, Moldova received over 2.7 million doses of vaccine against COVID-19.

A number of 2,080 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the last week of 2021, 712 of which in the Transnistrian region. The incidence rate was 56 cases per 100,000 people, down about 11% on a week before and approximately 46% on a month before. There were also reported eight cases of infection among pregnant women. The number of cases among children decreased from 249 a week before to 154.

An orange alert was issued in the Transnistrian region where the incidence rate was 217 cases per 100,000 people. A yellow alert was issued in four districts of the region where the incidence rate was lower than 87 cases per 100,000 people. Thirty-three localities are under green alert with an incidence rate under 50 cases per 100,000 people.

During December 26 – January 2, there were logged 98 deaths from COVID-19. Also, 579 deaths were reported retroactively, for the period between May 2020 and October 2021.

The average number of hospitalized patients was 721 persons, down over 17% on a week before.
