The Chisinau City Hall hosted the 2024 Municipal Sports Performance Gala, a large-scale event celebrating excellence in sports. Over 200 athletes, coaches, and representatives of sports clubs in the municipality attended to honor their achievements throughout a year marked by remarkable successes at both national and international levels, including the Paris Olympic Games, IPN reports.

Vice Mayor Angela Cutasevici highlighted the role of sports in community development:

"Sports exemplify pushing boundaries and achieving goals. Our champions are role models for us all. The municipality remains committed to supporting athletes and promoting mass sports, thereby fostering an active, healthy, and engaged generation", said Cutasevici.

The event also featured awards for the best athletes, coaches, and sports teams of the year:

Best Athlete: Anastasia Nichita (women’s wrestling), Serghei Tarnovschi (canoe-kayak), Oleg Cretul (para-judo), Larisa Marinenkova (para-powerlifting).

Best Sports Team: Dacia Buiucani Chisinau Under-17 (football).

Best Coaches: Valeriu Duminică (judo) and Vitalie Gligor (para-judo).

The Mayor of Chisinau presented an overview of the municipality's investments in sports, highlighting consistent budget increases:

"In the past five years, Chisinau City Hall has allocated substantial funds to support sports initiatives. Starting with 6.6 million lei in 2019, we have reached 25 million this year. This trend will continue because sports represent the healthy future of our city", said Mayor Ion Ceban.

A special highlight of the evening was the launch of the book Top Sport Moldova, authored by the President of the Sports Press Association, Eduard Ciobanu. The book is a tribute to the achievements of Moldovan athletes on the international stage.

The 2024 Municipal Sports Performance Gala concluded with a festive concert.
