Fines of over 10 million lei have been imposed so far by the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) based on reports on passive electoral corruption received from the police, IPN reports.
The fines vary between 25,000 lei and 37,500 lei. According to a press release issued by the NAC, "the persons were penalized for asking for, accepting or receiving, personally or through an intermediary, undeserved goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form, for themselves or for another person, for the purpose of exercising or not exercising electoral rights at elections."
The NAC said that it will continue to examine the reports received from the General Police Inspectorate and will make decisions on them.
The persons are exempt from contravention liability if they self-denounced or contributed to the discovery or counteraction of acts of electoral corruption.
