More than 1,000 persons with disabilities of the locomotor system will benefit from new wheelchairs. These were dominated by an American charitable organization within a project implemented by the public association “Society of Invalids of the Republic of Moldova”, IPN reports.

The wheelchairs will be distributed to beneficiaries according to the lists presented by the National Experimental Prosthetic, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center. The organization will also offer crutches, walkers and anti-slip mats.

During May 14-16, 26 Moldovan technicians and therapists were trained by doctors from the U.S. to evaluate, assemble and adjust the wheelchair to the needs of each applicant individually.

In 2019, the Government allocated 3.5 million lei for the purchase of wheelchair by the National Experimental Prosthetic, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center. The waiting list includes over 1,000 persons.
