Over 100 children from flood-hit areas go to Georgia to rest

As many as 106 children from the flood-stricken Hancesti, Cantemir and Ungheni districts left for Georgia to rest in a summer camp for two weeks. Minister of Education Leonid Bujor accompanied the children to the airport and saw them off. “Make friends among the children from other Moldovan villages and from Georgia and other countries, who will be resting there,” Leonid Bujor advised them, Info-Prim Neo reports. Georgia’s Ambassador based in Bucharest Levan Metreveli said the camp where the Moldovan children will rest is situated on the bank of the Black Sea. “They will sunbathe, play and take part in different cultural and sports activities. The most important thing is that they will communicate with fellows from Armenia, Poland and other countries there,” Levan Metreveli said. Valentina Tonu, the head of the Hancesti Education Division, said it was hard to draw up the lists of children as the parents did not want to allow them to go to Georgia. Andrei, 14, from Nemteni said he will miss his parents, but was glad that he will be able to see another country. The boy’s mother stressed it is good for these children to relax and forget about the problems. Nicoleta, 10, from Cotul Morii said she was eager to know other children. “I’m a little bit nervous as I will fly by plane for the first time,” she said. The children are aged between 10 and 18. They were selected by the local authorities and education divisions in the affected areas. Another 54 children from flood-hit villages will go to a summer camp in Romania. All the related costs are covered by the Georgian authorities. Georgia also pledged to finance the construction of 10 houses for flood-hit families and a kindergarten.
